GERODOK / KERNA DIA - Split tape. (Nervhous Records/Greenpeacedistro) RM10
History restored! Split between Gerodok / Kerna Dia was originally released in cd-r form around 2014 with Avail Records and GustixKatilxDistro. Perhaps on the basis of its classic and nostalgic nature, it was re-released in June 2017 in the pro-tape format of a joint venture of two renowned labels, Nervhous Records and Green Peace Distro. I liked the layout of the cassette cover which was a bit old-school and simple but still interesting, plus the attraction of the leather illustration by Maminkfesto replacing the original artwork (skulls & bones) of the previous cd-r. Gerodok and Kerna Dia were both born in the same district of Lahad Datu and play a similar genre of Punk Rock; 3-chord-based melodic street-punk, although the composition is considered simple but still sounds delicious, fresh and easy to digest. Because He featured 5 songs on Side A. The band which consists of Nat (vocals), Mamat (guitar), Udin (second guitar), Ah Seng (bass) and Joy (drums) quite a lot reminds me of the legend of Oi! local i.e. ACAB. It's not as melodic as Gerodok, because he's a little hard and straight-forward according to my observation. One of the songs contributed by Kerna Dia is a plated version of Freedom, the original song of the group Desecrate. Gerodok that fills Side B is actually a name that has its own prestige in the underground music scene in Sabah. This 4-piece consisting of P.E (vocals), Mat (guitar), Pyan (bass) and Tiyam (drums) is often picked as the first punk band from around there. Seven songs were performed by Gerodok in this split, including Bulan 8 Di Sandakan, a song that is very well known to many, became a whistle and great influence. Gerodok is a bit skanky in their innate street-punk style. The melody and harmony are entertaining, only Gerodok's sound is a bit raw compared to Kerna Dia. This Split Tape has given the opportunity to many new listeners (including myself). This Ep was released in 1992 on the mighty Tribal War Records, the record label of Neil (from the first Nausea line-up, Jesus Chrust and Final Warning) that was responsible for some fantastic records throughout the years that had a strong and lasting influence on me (Sarcasm, Coitus, Contravene, Antiproduct, Axiom, Atrocious Madness, Behind Enemy Lines and so on). "Dying for who" may actually have been its second release, I am not too sure (the first one was the second Confrontation Ep: the man had great tastes!). Great label, great band. And for the unlucky ones not in the know, Hellkrusher are still playing, still recording (their 2012 split Ep with Bullet Ridden is great) and Antisociety has just released an Lp with all their recordings from 1993 to 1994, their classic period really, with the "Fields of blood" Ep and the split Ep with Disclose. This mad trio started only a few short years ago, but a few months ago they visited Australia on tour (and that was impressive). Our friends made some positive changes… They’ve grown up and they’re mutilating the dead with some wicked old school Grindcore. This has heavy effect on their sound and riffs (we will talk about that a little bit later) and that also has effects on their art. Just look at this collage! Okay I can can agree with the fact that is not unique, but this one looks badass! This one was made in 100% Grindcore fashion. So “Anti Scum Human” is receptacle for being 10 very fast, dirty, short and good songs. As I said before, the sound has changed, now it’s more clear, maybe even heavier… Song structures have become more rigid and direct. The guys are trying their best, they shoot you in a barrage song by song. They don’t want to give you time to breathe or time to open your beer. And I must admit that they sound even more aggressive now than ever. I like how this guitar sounds, it’s still a little bit messy but now its full of buzzing energy. The same can be said about the drums, now these beats sounds more confident and more powerful. So in the end I can only add that I’m really happy to see and hear these positive changes in this band. They been in STILL ONE, STILL PROUD compilation with the such likes The Idiots, Ina Subs, Dead Germ, Total Destroy, SepticTank, Error Crew, Out Of Control, Kremlin, Overcast, Sexy Pigs, Dislike dan Cryptical Death. This compilation also became the forerunner to the establishment of Movement Records, where the compilation, became the first release for the record label based in South Jakarta. As Midhumans engraved in the history of Jakarta punk, there's not much information could be gathered about the band. They could be included into the 2nd generation punk band (school of UK82 hardcore punk) from the mid of 90's (an era where political-conscious/crust punk starting making wave) through the Reformasi period and into the turn of the century. MYTERI - The silent death (Sukma Records) RM12
Four songs with Gothenburg band MYTERI which was formed early 2013 boys are bearded and does not look like a crust band "should" do but what does it do when they sound like one. It is aggressive, fast, and there are some songs in particular "essence" so all the ingredients that should be included in their dish. I see the MYTERI as a band for the future and if they can only modify their songs a little and get a sound that is a little clearer or rather bring out the vocals a bit more, I would be really happy. Now I'm happy with the anger and tempo ... I want some other sound but the group is not so old and have not quite found their sound. But good is it.. MYTERI’s 4 tracks album is a sprawling and unforgiving opera of darkened heavy punk that draws much influence from legendary crust bands like AMEBIX, ANTISECT, and from head-on collision-like d-beat bands like WOLFPACK, DOOM and DISFEAR. In any case, this is a prime example of amazing melodic heavy crust - if you like TRAGEDY, this shit will clamp on to your soul and not let you go ever again. Ten songs of misery and despair - d-beat and booze throughout this raw mayhem.

NÖ PÖWER- Ingen Makt - EP. (Black konflik records) New. RM18
North Carolina Furious D-Beat with Discharge-inspired and Disclose approach with the heavy and dissonant sounds of 90s noise rock. This cassette EP includes 6 unreleased tracks recorded and mixed in 2013. It's an original sound, comparable to a more rock-oriented take on the experimental d-beat of recent Japanese bands like D-Clone and Zyanose.
No Peace is the debut LP by Charlottesville, NC’s Nö Pöwer. There are subtle elements of garage and psych at play here but it’s primarily raging hardcore punk, with a noticeable emphasis on the noise. It's a primitive and blown-out style of D-beat that’s been injected with a distinctive dose of artiness and then drenched in feedback. Although he’s not stretching the margins of hardcore vocals too far, the singer is still able to effectively convey a variety of emotion; whether it’s depression, anger, anxiety, or oftentimes, inexplicable. The drums and bass step outside the Dis zone for brief periods of erratic improvisation, trying as best as they can to keep up with the lightning fast guitars, which squeal and swirl all over the place; driving the band’s sonic direction into face-melting realms. This comes as no surprise, considering this the same band that dedicated side B of their 2011 demo cassette to one four-plus minute jam of chopped and screwed remix racket that had the singer shouting the band’s name repeatedly atop an inordinate drum beat. While there’s nothing quite that bizarre on this LP, Nö Pöwer is still pushing the limitations of the big D beyond monotonous reiteration. Attention all other bands: start doing this now! No Peace is the perfect amalgamation of punk sub-genres and a furious goddamn record. How much art can you take? Exactly this much. NUCLEAR POWER GENOCIDE - devastation of the future (Bullwhip Records) RM15
NUCLEAR POWER GENOCIDE is a new band formed by members of PARANOID and ABSOLUT. Both bands need no introduction since they are/were around long time ago and offered us some great raw tunes. Back in 2015 they released Jawbreaking Mangel Devastation split (2x7" and 12") and toured together in 2016, now they join forces, two members of the now defunct ABSOLUT (Chris on vocal duties and Joel on guitar) and two from PARANOID (Jocke on bass and Emil on drums) formed NUCLEAR POWER GENOCIDE and recorded four tracks for an upcoming 7" titled Devastation of the Future. The recording took much time (between July 2017 & April 2018), mixed by Nayr Tunndra & Joel from Absolut, mastered by Kenko at Communichaos Media Clay Station and sleeve artwork was created by Jacky Crustwar. Ötzi is known for their intricate songwriting and their explosive live show. At times haunting and at times aggressive, Ötzi delivers a driving rhythm,double intertwining vocal melodies and abstract guitar washes.

A few days ago i was thinking about posting this but i was too tired so i canceled it for sometime later, then next morning i a comment made by Bergman, the drummer of Abnorm, came in, well that's perfect timing. Abnorm hail from Boras, Sweden, they formed in winter 1999 but they recorded tracks for first time in 2005, you can see a detailed biography here, their discography is: "Multinationella Horor" (2006), "Ert Jävla System Kan Fan Brinna I Helvetet Era Satans As"(2006), Enough (2007) plus a split 7" w Rajoitus (2006) and a 3-way split w Rajoitus and Zudas Krust from Indonesia They also contributed tracks in several compilations. Abnorm offer for free their recorded material in their website, its good enough to give it a try, on the other hand Rajoitus offer for free their releases in Last.fm. Coming straight from Moscow, Russia, Regime is a new brand D-Beat Hardcore band and Who's to blame?' is their 4 track new ep on pro cassette. The band features member of stenchore crusties Fatum and hardcore punks Reptoloids. The cassette is released by Black Konflik , the recording lasts nearly eight minutes of D-beat hardcore that would remind you to Discharge's Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing' era with strong heavy D-beat influences. SASAU! - Demo 2020 (321 go distro). RM15
SASAU!’s demo clatters to life on the first song “Nightrow” as a square, stomping hardcore number, but the song quickly becomes more and more frantic, vocals devolving from a sardonic howl to spastic vocalizations that are less lyrics than onomatopoeia, syllables tumbling forth. The album is—as the only descriptor on Bandcamp indicates—a “Raw demo,” but it’s well worth a listen. The vocals are unhinged in the best way, and the band veers between punk and hardcore like a car weaving through lanes on the highway, doing 90 with no one at the wheel. This record is from February but I listened to it again this month and had to include it. It’s a record that deserves more attention than it has gotten.

Subversive, a band from Segamat that was born around the end of the 90s that featured 6 songs in all. Surely this demo brings back memories of the Segamat era bring chaos once upon a time. Maybe this demo is still stored in another collection of cassettes, some have been lost, flooded, kasi makwe borrowed and so on. It is released in very limited quantities. THE DIRTY DOGS - Raw Punk attack 1994-1998 (Greenpeacedistro) RM15
THE DIRTY DOGS dbeat raw punk from Kuala Lipis Pahang. The Dirty Dogs were from Malaysia and together with The Bollocks and Opposition Party one of the more well known. Probably still obscure for most of you. This tape was released in Bulgaria on AON Productions and compiles the 1st two demo tapes that The Dirty Dogs recorded. The Dirty Dogs were active in the mid- till late 90's. I always read that they have a crusty D-beat sound but you can't hear that on the demos. Maybe they changed their sound later on? On the demos they sound quite punk with a bit of HC in it. It's no groundbreaking stuff but I think it's always cool to dig up obscure and 'exotic' punk. First 5 tracks are the 'In Death Row' demo recorded in 1994. The other 4 tracks are the 'The Dirty Dog' demo recorded in 1995.
The Dirty Dogs. "Power that Be" EP. Another local bands that has produced their recording professionally with 10 Anarcho Punk songs (Raw-Punk laa…-ed) + intro and outro. Apart from clear sound quality, the band really has a feat to go far. They seem in progress to create out their own style. The guitars sound similar as the steel that scratched by a knife. Maybe the guitarist used the chord that I used to call it as "Kord Anak". The solo part really was getting fantastic. The drum compilation was neatly even it fast and there is also a grinding part in a last song. A compilation track taken from their "In Death Row Demo 94, War Demo 95 and Power That Be 98.

Malaysian first band playing Noisecore Punk ala CONFUSE, GAI, DISORDER and ATROCIOUS MADNESS, LEBENDEN TOTEN, DISCLOSE, SHITLICKERS, BROKEN BONES, BLOOD SPIT NIGHTS etc. 6 tracks previously released by Black Konflik Records in 2009, 2 songs from Sense Of Crisis split plus 2 unreleased songs. History : The band was started in 2004 with 5 piece playing raw punk in the veins of MODERAT LIKVIDATION, KAAOS, THE UNSEEN at the time we use the name 'social security' but not too long after that SS split of some problems and only left 3 of us. Somewhere in 2005 we planning to started a new band playing noisepunk since no much of these kind around and we started doing new shits and keep practicin. After a couple of month we become really active and have been invited for some shows. We use the name 'WARDOGS' which was taken from one line in our unreleased tracks called 'total fucking control.
