GENOME - young, beautiful & free. RM15
Loud and noisy crasher mangel crusty punk from Malmö Sweden. Genöme makes a follow up to their ”The Sound Of Loud Ringing In The Ear – tape” this time with some changes within the band that can be noticed in a good way. As a new bassplayer has taken control of the noise it’s been a more distincts way of bringing out the wall of thundernoise. The satisfying and chaotic combination of the mental drumming, noisy guitar and furious vocals makes this a full on mad and powerfull follow up. This wont dissapoint you crasher noise crusters out there.

Review
The Dirty Dogs dbeat raw punk from Kuala Lipis Pahang. The Dirty Dogs were from Malaysia and together with The Bollocks and Opposition Party one of the more wellknown. Probably still obscure for most of you. This tape was released in Bulgaria on AON Productions and compiles the 1st two demo tapes that The Dirty Dogs recorded. The Dirty Dogs were active in the mid- till late 90's. I always read that they have a crusty D-beat sound but you can't hear that on the demos. Maybe they changed their sound later on? On the demos they sound quite punk with a bit of HC in it. It's no groundbreaking stuff but I think it's always cool to dig up obscure and 'exotic' punk. First 5 tracks are the 'In Death Row' demo recorded in 1994. The other 4 tracks are the 'The Dirty Dog' demo recorded in 1995.

The Dirty Dogs. "Power that Be" EP.
Another local bands that has produced their recording professionally with 10 Anarcho Punk songs (Raw-Punk laa…-ed) + intro and outro. Apart from clear sound quality, the band really has a feat to go far. They seem in progress to create out their own style. The guitars sound similar as the steel that scratched by a knife. Maybe the guitarist used the chord that I used to call it as "Kord Anak". The solo part really was getting fantastic. The drum compilation was neatly even it fast and there is also a grinding part in a last song. A compilation track taken from their "In Death Row Demo 94, War Demo 95 and Power That Be 98.

Review :
Current Malaysia STREET HARDCORE PUNK! A band from Malaysia that has the excitement after Indonesia. Six tracks of hardcore punk that folds up at a comfortable speed, with acupoints that contain an easy-to-understand chorus. If I dare to say, I think I sprinkled some DRUNK PUNK in the early days of THE UNSEEN. I feel the influence before and after the THE CASUALTIES 2ND album. A pretty good tape is fine.

GPD26 : GERODOK / KERNA DIA

KERNA DIA - Hentikan Peperangan

Review :
History restored! Split between GERODOK / KERNA DIA was originally released in cd-r form around 2014 with Avail Records and GustixKatilxDistro. Perhaps on the basis of its classic and nostalgic nature, it was re-released in June 2017 in the pro-tape format of a joint venture of two renowned labels, Nervhous Records and Green Peace Distro. I like the relatively old-school and simple cover layout of the cassette but still interesting, plus the attraction of the leather illustration by Maminkfesto replaces the original artwork (skulls & bones) of the previous cd-r. Gerodok and Kerna Dia were both born in the same district of Lahad Datu and play a similar genre of Punk Rock; 3-chord-based melodic street-punk, although the composition is considered simple but still sounds delicious, fresh and easy to digest. Because He performed 5 songs on Side A. The band which consists of Nat (vocals), Mamat (guitar), Udin (second guitar), Ah Seng (bass) and Joy (drums) quite a lot reminds me of the legend of Oi! local i.e. ACAB. It's not as melodic as Gerodok, because he's a little hard and straight-forward according to my observation. One of Kerna Dia's contribution songs is a plated version of Freedom, the original song of the group Desecrate. Gerodok that fills Side B is actually a name that has its own prestige in the underground music scene in Sabah. This 4-piece consisting of P.E (vocals), Mat (guitar), Pyan (bass) and Tiyam (drums) is often picked as the first punk band from around there. Seven songs were performed by Gerodok in this split, including Bulan 8 Di Sandakan, a song that is very well known to many, became a whistle and great influence. Gerodok is a bit of their innate street-punk style skanky. Melody and harmony are entertaining, only Gerodok's sound is a bit raw compared to Kerna Dia. This Split Tape has given the opportunity to many new listeners (including myself). I believe this is among the best split releases that ever came out and circulated around the mid-2000s, spreading messages in the form of political and social criticism, issues of oppression and war, capitalism and so on. Ah, I have to tell you that Bulan 8 Di Sandakan is a love-themed song, manipulated by many parties but the real original is this one, a genuine version of Gerodok's creation.

GPD25 : ACID DISTORTION / CIPLIKKER - Acidlikker

Band : ACID DISTORTION / CIPLIKKER
Title : Two way split of drunkard
Genre : ACID DISTORTION (Dbeat noise) / CIPLIKKER (UK82 Hc/punk).
Label : Green Peace Distro / Sukma Records / B.P Drunkard Records
Date release : July 16, 2017
Status : Sold out

Listen :

Tracklist :
ACID DISTORTION - Action
ACID DISTORTION - Dogs Of War
ACID DISTORTION - Fuck Nazis Forever
ACID DISTORTION - War System

CIPLIKKER - Drink Drunk Disorder
CIPLIKKER - Drunkard Punk
CIPLIKKER - F.O.A.D.
CIPLIKKER - Protest To Survive
Written-By – The Varukers

Review :
This Split-Tape features two punk bands from Batu Pahat, Johor. Each of them features 4 songs, and each with a cover song. “Acidlikker” was released in July 2017 (previously in a limited quantity CD version in January 2017). Acid Distortion lined with Acai (drums), Kedak K (bass), Motormaniac (guitar) and Fahmiacid (vocals) offers the volume and ferocity of Noise Punk through songs titled Action, Dogs of War, Fuck Nazis Forever, and War System (Shitlickers) cover). Punk is a bit noisy, metallic and quite energetic. This band I once interviewed in Rise! issue #3. Ciplikker which consists of Schizo (vocals), Dekwan (guitar), Jack D (bass), Jaweed (drums) and Emi (second guitar) is a new name I know. Maybe even a new band from punk squat The Wall. They performed songs such as Drink Drunk Disorder, Drunkard Punk, FOAD, and Protes To Survive (The Varukers cover). Ciplikker’s music flow to me is quite inclined to Street Punk, or I mean inspired by UK82 Hardcore Punk. Let's get drunk with them, haha !. On the whole this is an interesting split release, the recording quality is raw but still good and most importantly meets the needs of the genre of music being played.

GPD24 : DISKANGKUNG - kangkungcore

Band : DISKANGKUNG

Bom Atom
Dunia Huru Hara
Kangkungcore
War Is Misery
Oppresive System
Pak Menteri Berkepala Babi
Perang Bangsat (Re-Record)

Review :
Malaysian RAW HARDCORE PUNK that makes a noise in Spanish! Can I go to Scandinavian lovers? I sprinted while feeling a little sadness. Probably the only solo work. Already participated in VA. Total Fucking Madness Comp. A little faster drumming without D-beat! I recommend it!

According to what is written on the cover of the cassette, the songs in this release were recorded live and mixed at Hotsounds studio around 2012. This cassette was then released in November 2016. From what I understand, "Kangkungcore" is aimed at a compilation of songs which was recorded by Diskangküng including a re-recorded song. The song list is as follows: 1. 28 July 1914 (WW1) / 2. Atomic Bomb / 3. Dunia Huru Hara / 4. Kangkungcore / 5. War Is Misery / 6. Oppressive System / 7. Pig-Headed Minister / 8. War Bastard (re-record). Diskangküng comes from Batu Pahat, Johor and consists of Ait (guitar), Man (vocals), Hafiz (drums) and Shah (bass). Based on my hearing and observation, Diskangküng brings hard, rebellious, loud D-beat / Crust Hardcore Punk music – full of anger, and even hatred! I also think there are elements of dark / blackened hardcore or maybe more precisely the influence of the stenchcore genre in the songs of Diskangküng. The guitar riffs sound fierce behind the strong and heavy nuances of the sound, the bass passages are quite prominent and the twin pedal playing is so good by their drummer. Diskangküng was once involved in a 4-way split CD "Capitalist War Holocaust" (2012) with Exkoriator (Singapore), Angkara (Kedah) and Geen Naam (Kuala Lumpur) where 4 songs from Diskangküng in the split were also included in the cassette-tape " Kangkungcore”. Bad!

GPD23 : LIBERAL LIBERALIS - Self Title

Band : LIBERAL LIBERALIS

Date release : January, 2017
Status : Sold out

Tracklist :
Pukimak Najib

What We Want
Unite We Are
A Poem To Our System
Message To The King

Review :
Malaysia RAW HARDCORE PUNK. Current band. A hardcore punk with a monotonous rhythm, a melancholy guitar, and a dumb voice. There is a fairly solid guiller solo part, and the guitar is quite good. It's not a metal guitar. For those who like melancholy hardcore punk. The vocals are sloppy, so I'm OK! Melodic rhythms and biting guitar solo passages dominate the overall feel of heavy hardcore / metalpunk made by Liberal Liberalis, a band based in Kuching, Sarawak. It (melodic element) sounds quite clear and stands out through 6 songs that are included in the "s/t" tape released with the influential labels Nervhous Records and Green Peace Distro. The band’s music is made up of a line-up of highly skilled musicians especially their guitarists. Liberal Liberals somewhat reminds me of the Armados group from Lahad Datu, Sabah where I think these two bands have a musical concept that is arguably similar; i.e. emphasizing melodic structure in their innate hardcore/punk rhythms. The lyrics sung by Liberal Liberals are so geared towards current political themes in the country; about Najib's leadership, abuse of power, corruption, oppression and the voices of those who want freedom and justice. For the record, Liberal Liberalis was formed around 2011 and is comprised of Colt (bass/vocals), Hassan (lead guitar), Bolton Zymeth (second guitar) and Ddek (drums). The tape was launched for production and distribution on October 8, 2016, during the Kuala Lumpur: Zine Festival x Indie Comics x Distro Day Out. This tape is fun and entertaining.
